Offline RPGs that don't need a server

The RPG genre has drifted hard toward always-online design, which is a shame when you just want to sit with a story. So I went looking for role-playing games that keep everything on your device.

Turn-based titles tend to work best offline. They don't rely on live matchmaking, and their save systems are usually generous enough to stop anywhere. Emberfall Saga is my current favorite here, mostly for how readable its progression is.

Watch out for games that are technically offline but still gate content behind daily online rewards. If the campaign stalls unless you check in, it doesn't really qualify in my book. A true offline RPG respects that you might not reconnect for days.

My advice: download during setup, check how much space the full game takes, and test whether it opens in airplane mode before you get attached. Five minutes of checking saves a lot of annoyance later.
